Kindle Paperwhite

Kindle Paperwhiteを使いだして2年ほどになります。　今使っているのは8GBのもので、通常書籍（白黒印刷）1冊を20～70MBとすると、100～350冊分がKindleに入れられることになります。　雑誌やコミックだと色が入るので、1冊100MBとして70冊ほど入ることになります。　もっともコミックは殆ど読みませんし、雑誌は気に入ったものしか買わないうえにKindle対応していないので、私としては通常書籍用で十分ということになりますが、今考えると32GBのモデルと8GBのモデルでは2,000円ほどしか差がないので、32GBにしておけばよかった、と思っています。
長所としては、なんといってもかさばらないことです。　出張、旅行に本を持っていこうとすると冊数も増えて荷物になってしまいますが、Kindleなら楽々です。　また、Kindle Unlimited（月1,000円）に加入すれば、Kindle Unlimited対象になっている本は図書館で本を借りるように読んで返却、ができます。（ただし10冊までの制限があります。）ちょっと気にはなるけど買ってまで読むのは躊躇する、というときに大変重宝します。
短所としては、書店に行った時のように思いがけない本に出会うという場面がなくなることです。　なので、私は買う用事がなくとも書店には度々出かけ、読みたいと思う本が見つかればKindleになっているかチェックして、対象であればKindleで買います。
It’s been about two years since I started using Kindle Paperwhite. I’m currently using an 8GB book, and 100-350 books can be stored in this Kindle when a book is supposed to have its capacity of 20-70MB with no colors. Magazines and comics with colors, so about 70 books can be stored when a book is supposed to have 100MB. However, I rarely read comics, and magazines that I buy do not have Kindle version, so for me 8GB model is sufficiently useful. The 32GB model and 8GB do not make big difference of price – it is only about 2,000 yen, so I think I should have set it to 32GB.
The advantage is that it is not bulky after all. If you try to bring a book for a business trip or a travel with a number of books, it is bulky. But with Kindle it is easy. Also, if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited (1,000 yen per month), you can read and return books that are eligible for Kindle Unlimited as if you were borrowing a book at the library. (However, there is a limit of 10 books.) It is very useful when you feel if you should buy the book but hesitate to do it.
The downside is that you don’t have any unexpected chances of coming across books to make you feel you want to read, when you went to a bookstore. So, I often go to bookstores even if I have nothing to buy, and if I find a book I want to read, I check if it has Kindle version.
