I was sorting through my house and found a Nambu tetsubin iron kettle. I don’t remember buying it, so it was probably a gift.

Nambu ironware is available in Mizusawa and Morioka, but this is from Morioka.
Morioka’s foundry business is said to have begun during the Keicho era (1596-1615), when the Morioka clan’s lord, the Nanbu clan, built Morioka Castle. Orders for castings were almost entirely taken by four families: the Arisaka, Suzuki, Fujita, and Koizumi families. Unfortunately, we do not know which family this ironware originated from.

Compared to a kettle made of ordinary enamel, it takes a little more time and effort to use and maintain, but that’s part of the fun.
